PHOTO: Pee on the rocks

I've noticed in a few of the diners I frequent, the urinals are often filled with ice cubes. This photo was snapped in the men's room at the Blauvelt Coach Diner in Blauvelt, NY.

So, why the ice? Is it just more fun for guys to pee on ice cubes? (Yeah, it is!)

For the more practical answer, we turn to Tad Wilkes, editor of Nightclub & Bar magazine. Tad says, "One reason is it's cheaper than using urinal cakes or deodorant pads that would have to be replaced regularly. The second is that when guests urinate on the ice, it cools the urine and reduces the odor. And you can always send a worker in there with another scoop of ice if you don't have any toilet cakes left."

Another of life's mysteries solved.

OK, I buy that, but doesn't the urine splatter and spray all over the place when peeing on the rocks?

Not really. The warm stream melts the ice when it hits and it all goes down the drain. What a topic.
